Dylan Cramer for the first time at Brasserie Coquette!
Dylan Cramer is a renowned saxophonist, recording artist, educator and author. Cramer, born in North Vancouver in 1958, started playing the alto saxophone at age 13, after the sudden death of his father. At 17, he heard a recording of jazz alto saxophone legend Sonny Criss, and was so taken with Criss’s playing that he decided to go to Los Angeles to find him and study with him. Two years later, Dylan arrived in LA, found Sonny, and was fortunate to work with him for eight months until Sonny’s untimely death in November of 1977. Devastated from losing Sonny and unsure of what to do next, Dylan took the advice of stellar music educator Dick Grove and began studying with Phil Sobel, an outstanding studio musician and brilliant teacher. Cramer studied with Sobel from 1978 to 1987, and credits Phil with saving his life, both as a musician and as a man. After making the difficult decision to leave Phil and head out on his own, Dylan moved back to Vancouver in 1988, where he began his teaching and recording career. Since then, he has recorded six albums and written three books, all to worldwide acclaim.
Currently residing in North Vancouver, Dylan teaches saxophone, flute, clarinet, violin and piano. He performs regularly in and around the Vancouver area and is currently working on both a new recording and a new book.
For his performance at Brasserie Coquette on August 21 st , Cramer will be joined by legendary pianist Michael Creber. If you like beautiful melodies, heartfelt feelings and soulful sounds, this night is for you.
